Ideation process:

Project 1: Anatomy Educational AR App

  • Problem: Limited access to detailed and interactive anatomical models of the human body for educational purposes.

  • Solution: An AR-powered platform allowing users to explore and interact with detailed 3D anatomical models of the human body.

Feedback from Mr Razif:

Animation on 3D models showcasing how different biological systems works could be interesting but animating 3D models might be hard to do.

Project 2: Furniture Placement AR

  • Problem: Difficulty visualizing how furniture will fit in a space, leading to poorly planned rooms.

  • Solution: An AR tool to virtually place and arrange furniture in a room, enabling seamless design.

Feedback from Mr Razif:

Have to make it stand out from IKEA Move app, or else it will be the same or too simple.

Project 3: Automotive Maintenance AR

  • Problem: Difficulty understanding complex vehicle maintenance and repair procedures, leading to errors and frustration.

  • Solution: An AR-powered app that provides interactive, step-by-step guidance and visualizations for automotive maintenance and repair tasks, simplifying the process and reducing errors.

Feedback from Mr Razif:

Similar to senior's final project, make it different or unique from theirs.

New Proposal == Project 4: AR Laptop Maintenance and Diagnostics App

  • Problem: Laptop maintenance and diagnostics can be daunting, especially for those lacking technical expertise. Many individuals struggle to troubleshoot common issues, leading to frustration and potential damage. This can result in unnecessary repair costs and downtime.

  • Solution: An immersive AR solution to simplify laptop repair and maintenance, providing step-by-step guidance and interactive visualizations. This AR app would guide users through troubleshooting procedures, identify potential issues, and provide clear instructions for resolving them. The interactive visualizations would enhance understanding and make complex tasks easier to comprehend.

Reflection

In this design preparation process, I initially considered creating an AR car inspection app. The idea seemed impactful, especially for users who lack knowledge about car parts. However, after further thought, I decided to shift my focus to developing an AR laptop maintenance app. This change was driven by my desire to explore a concept that stands out as more unique compared to my senior's work. Laptop maintenance with AR felt fresh and different, offering an opportunity to tackle challenges that haven’t been explored as much. Through my research, I not only gained a better understanding of laptop components and maintenance work but also learned the importance of user experience design, such as constructing user journey maps and empathy maps. In conclusion, these tools helped shape an interface that is both simple and intuitive, with clear instructions and visual cues to guide users who may not be familiar with laptop components.
