Progress

To start expanding the prototype, I start by implementing music and sound effects for my game, I find my sound effects in royalty free sound from websites like Freesound or Pixabay.

I have also added a block mechanic to my player so that the block negates incoming damage.

Then, I started working on the enemy script and enemy animations.

I added a patrol mechanic for my enemy so that it patrols around certain areas of the map.

Then, for the boss room, I added an invisible box as a trigger to activate the boss in following the player, I also changed the background music to boss music when the collider is triggered.

After several playtests, I build the game into a WebGL file, zipped it, and uploaded it via Unity Play.

Final Reflection

Over the past few weeks, exploring Unity game development has been a challenging yet rewarding journey. As a UI/UX student with limited coding experience, I initially struggled with concepts like scripting, C# programming, and gameplay mechanics. However, as the module progressed, I gained a deeper understanding of how game design intersects with UI/UX principles to create immersive player experiences.

While I improved in scripting and design integration, I identified areas where I need growth, such as optimizing code and refining complex mechanics like the checkpoint system, enemy AIs and much more. Moving forward, I plan to continue learning Unity through personal projects and game jams, applying both technical skills and UI/UX knowledge to design user-friendly games.

This module has shown me how my background in UI/UX can enhance game development and has inspired me to explore more opportunities where these fields overlap.
