INSTRUCTIONS

EXERCISE 1

To Do: Analyze and review a game created by Taylor's University seniors

Process:
First off, I went to Taylor's GameDevZone to take a good look on the creations my seniors have made.
After browsing through the website, the game that left a good impression on me was Zapper Snapper by Hanif Rashid.

Graphics

Fig 1.2 Graphics

Pros:
-Smooth animation.
-Good mob design.
-Good use of neon effect for environmental design.

Cons:
-Some of the text are in low resolution compared to the rest of the text.

Sound Design

Pros:
-Good OST.
-Good use of sound effects when a character attacks, gets damaged or dies.

Cons:
-OST does not loop seamlessly.

Gameplay

Fig 1.3 Gameplay

Pros:
-Gameplay is straightforward and good.
-A good mix of fighting and puzzle solving.
-Good mix of different enemies with different health.

Cons:
-Enemies does not stagger when attacked.
-Player could have a slight invincible window period after being attacked so that could avoid getting trapped by two enemies at once.
-Some of the environmental obstacles does not hurt the player as it should.
-Invisible walls could confuse players on where to go.

Controls

Fig 1.4 Controls

Pros:
-Good basic controls. (i.e. functional movement controls)

Cons:
-Height of jump is too high.
-Inconvenient placement of attack buttons. (could be changed to E and Q, instead of Z and X)
-Could add an option to go down a platform. (i.e. S + Spacebar)

Execution

Pros:
-Well executed and functional game that requires players to focus and play cautiously.

Cons:
-After the player dies, if the player pressed "HELP" and "BACK" then pick "RESUME", the game will get stuck.

Conclusion

Overall good game with decent gameplay and good mob and environmental design.
