Project 1 & 2

INSTRUCTIONS

Project 1

INSTRUCTION:
1. Choose 1 infographic poster reference from Internet (Please consult before proceed)
2. Redesign the poster into A4 size. Sketch the idea and process
3. Redesign and simplify the poster based on visual hierarchy & typography
4. Simplify the poster's design based on color, shape & pattern
5. Attach your final poster on E-Portfolio with explanation and reflective writing

Reference
For the first part of the project, we are to find reference images

In the end, I chose to redesign the zombie poster (fig 1.3), as it is too cluttered and looked too overwhelming.

Feedback for the zombie poster:
It looks more like a war poster because of the weapons, could simplify it more and make it more like a zombie poster.

Sketch

I proceeded to sketch to figure out the layout and the margins I wanted.

Assets
I then took some images online and modified them via the image trace option in Illustrator.

Project 2
INSTRUCTION:
1. Animate your infographic poster into one static loop animation page
2. Loop duration in between 15-30 second
3. Size: 1080 x 1920 px (Vertical Video) upload to your own Youtube channel

Process
After I'm done with Project 1, I imported the Illustrator file to After Effects and worked on the animation.

I decided to animate the hands, the letter "N", and the zombie head.

Before importing the file, I first separated each layer, so that it is easier to animate.

Fig 2.1

Firstly for the zombie head, I used the puppet tool to animate its mouth movement, to do so, I pinned the parts of the face that I want it to remain unchanged.

Then, for the hands and the "N", I create different positions using keyframes on the timeline.

REFLECTION

This project was both insightful and challenging, as it required me to analyze and redesign an infographic while focusing on the effectiveness of its delivery mechanism. Initially, selecting a suitable infographic reference was a crucial step because it set the foundation for the entire redesign process. Understanding what worked and what didn’t in the original design helped me identify key areas for improvement.

The sketching phase allowed me to experiment with different layouts, focusing on visual hierarchy, typography, and overall structure. Simplifying the design was a challenge, especially when balancing aesthetics with clarity. I had to make careful decisions regarding color schemes, shapes, and patterns to ensure the infographic remained engaging while effectively conveying information. Adjusting these elements helped me better understand how design influences user perception and comprehension.

The second part of the project, creating a minimal animated infographic, pushed me further as I had to transform a static design into motion. Ensuring that the animation looped seamlessly within the 15-30 second duration required planning and precise execution. Choosing the right pacing, transitions, and motion effects was a learning experience in itself. It was important to maintain simplicity while ensuring that the animation enhanced the overall message rather than overwhelming the viewer.

Overall, this project was a great exercise in information design and motion graphics. It deepened my understanding of how design elements contribute to effective visual communication. While there is always room for improvement, I am satisfied with how both the poster and animation turned out.
