Final Project
INSTRUCTIONS
Based on FLIP group topic research, produce a basic video animation.
DESCRIPTION:
Using a processed design framework, you will now produce an infographic report to present the given information to a ‘target audience’ with the purpose of:
1. Creating awareness (such as Global Warming, Recycle, etc.)
2. Explaining a process (such as "how to" video)
3. Defining a concept (such as "What is Fast Fashion", "What is Color Wheel", etc.)
Any time based media and software using photography, vector imagery.
Design Considerations:
● Organization Principles – LATCH and Content Organization
● Aesthetic Principles – Animation principles
● Cognitive Principles – Principles of visualization
Output Expectation:
The presentation must be deliberated on, consider each assessment rubric of sorts to your final outcome:
● Show causality
● Multivariate graphics and visuals
● Integrate word number and images
● Content count
● Within eyesight
● Use multiple charts
● Do not de-quantify
First attempts
This final project was both a collaborative and learning-intensive experience. From the initial brainstorming phase to the final animation, we had to navigate multiple stages of production while ensuring clarity, consistency, and effective storytelling.
One of the biggest challenges we faced was during the storyboard phase. Initially, our first attempt lacked consistency and detail, which made it difficult to translate into a smooth animation. To address this, Michael and I revised the storyboard, adding clearer descriptions and refining the flow to ensure a logical progression of ideas. This revision was crucial, as it set the foundation for the rest of the project.
Asset creation was another key phase, but there were some uncertainties about whether all team members completed their tasks. In the end, many assets from the storyboard were reused, which saved time but also highlighted the importance of proper communication and role execution.
For the animation phase, Wee Lun took the lead, using our storyboard elements to bring the visuals to life. Seeing the transition from static frames to a dynamic sequence was a rewarding experience, as it demonstrated how visual elements can be enhanced through motion.
One of my main contributions was the narration. Recording the voiceover required careful pacing and clarity to ensure that the message was engaging and easy to understand. Audio plays a crucial role in any animated piece, and I learned the importance of tone and delivery in enhancing the overall impact.
Finally, Yick Wai handled the audio refinement, adding sound effects and captions to polish the final video. These last touches made a significant difference in making the video feel complete and professional.
Overall, this project reinforced my understanding of information design, animation principles, and teamwork. While there were some coordination challenges, I am proud of how we managed to produce a clear and informative animation. If given another chance, I would focus on improving communication among team members to ensure a smoother workflow and more refined asset creation.
